RESIDENT PROGRAM STAFF JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Description
Camp White Eagle (CWE) staff members perform a variety of roles. A CWE staff member functions primarily as a skill instructor of program areas and teambuilding processes during the day and an on duty monitor in the evenings. At least 20 years of age with appropriate college-level course work
* Demonstrated interest in working with a variety of camper population&emdash;both male and female&emdash;of various ages and backgrounds including: youth, adolescents, and adults.
* Demonstrated leadership skills when working with youth, adolescents, and adults.
* Ability to demonstrate leadership skills in the areas of: canoeing, archery, riflery, crafts, adventure challenge, recreation, swimming, climbing and trail living / leadership.
(Please note: You will be required to teach each activity sometime during the summer but we don't require you to know how to lead all of the program areas when you first arrive at camp. We will take you through the procedures of leading each activity during staff training. If you are qualified or have experience in that area, we may ask you to help us teach the other staff during the training.)
* Have current First Aid and CPR certifications or be willing to take a course to be certified before the summer.
* Have a Lifeguard Certification.
* Ability and will to work and live closely with other team members.
* Demonstrated strong counseling skills.
Residence During the Summer Season
All staff members must stay in camp while groups are present.
We promise all of our groups 24-hour supervision by our staff and counselors. Each week you will have time off when you can leave the camp or just take time to relax or do errands.

A washer and dryer are also available for staff use throughout the summer.

Job Description

For this reason, it is expected that all Office Staff have an appreciation for public relations. The Office Staff member is responsible for inputting data in the camp computer. This includes, but not limited to, logging-in the campers' weekly activity selections, printing daily camper activity cards, logging-in prospective campers on the camp's mailing list, etc. The Office staff member is responsible for mailing out Camp Cayuga's promotional literature to all prospective camper families in a timely fashion.
MEDICAL STAFF: Accepting positions for Registered Nurses (RNs), Nurse Practitioners, LPNs, EMTs and MDs. We have 4 and 8 week positions available. Our infirmary is modern and comfortable, and houses Cayuga's medical staff members, including private accommodations with private bathrooms. We cater to normal/average children. SOAR is an outdoor and experiential education program utilizing 10, 12, 18, and 26 day expedition style adventures with youth diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorders and/or Learning Disabilities. Programs are co-ed, students are between the ages of 8 - 18, and groups consist of 7-8 students with 2 staff. Course sites include the North Carolina Smokies, Florida Keys, Wyoming, and California's Big Sur. Activities include: Rock climbing, whitewater rafting, backpacking, orienteering, llama treks, horsepacking, mountain biking, caving snorkeling, scuba diving, surfing, and sea kayaking.
Outdoor Trip Leader
RESP: Supervise a group of 7-8 students (2 staff per group), for 24 hours a day, on 10 to 26 day courses; facilitate a safe and successful experience during the adventure based portions of the course; facilitate the development of life skills, organizational skills, self-esteem, problem-solving strategies, communication techniques, and social skills; assist in developing personal goals for each student; write a comprehensive student evaluation at the end of each course; and act as a role model for students by demonstrating maturity, responsibility, good organizational skills, and professional behavior.
QUAL: Minimum 20 years of age (21 and older preferred); 2 years of college experience, in human service related field preferred (e.g., Education, Psychology, Recreation); current first aid and CPR certifications (minimum WFA required for NC and WY staff; Lifeguard required for FL and CA staff); experience and/or desire to work with LD and AD/HD youth; patience, energy, enthusiasm, flexibility, maturity, and integrity required; experience in and/or desire to learn outdoor adventure activities; strong organizational and time management skills preferred.
Activity Specialist
RESP: Work with groups of 7-8 students with 2 instructors to facilitate a safe and successful experience during the adventure activity portions of 10 to 26 day courses.
NC & WY: set rock climb sites and act as site manager; facilitate and manage high ropes course activities; support whitewater rafting days; support caving activities; potentially lead mountain biking activities; provide relief to instructor's in the field; work with youth in-between courses. WY only - support flat-water canoeing and riflery
FL & CA: facilitate use of ocean water craft such as motor boats or jet skis (FL only); facilitate water-based activities such as sea kayaking and snorkeling; manage logistics for groups during and between courses including managing, repairing, and transporting group gear and purchasing of food during course; provide relief to instructor's in the field.
QUAL: Minimum 20 years of age (21 and older preferred);. Minimum of 2 years college experience, preferable in Recreation Therapy, Outdoor Recreation, Education, or Psychology. First Aid and CPR required (minimum WFA required for NC and WY staff). Lifeguard certification required for FL and CA staff. Strong experience required in technical skills such as rock site facilitation and management, ropes course facilitation, white water rafting, caving, mountain biking, or ocean/water activities (FL & CA only). Patience, energy, enthusiasm, flexibility, maturity, and integrity required. Use of personal vehicle required for NC & WY (vehicle stipend provided).

Camp Matoaka is a private, girls, 8 week residential summer camp in Maine. Situated on over 150 acres of flat grassy playing fields, woodlands and lakefront, Matoaka's facility is top notch. more important than a great facility, Matoaka has a family type atmosphere and is often described as being fun, spirited, warm and caring. Campers range in age from 7-15 and come from across the country. A majority of our campers as well as many staff return each summer to a place they call 'home'.
Each summer we hire 120 staff to come spend their summer in Maine. All of our staff specialize and are well qualified in one or more activities listed below. Our staff are paid well and benefits include: room, board, laundry, free internet access and a travel allowance. We also have opportunities for pre and post season work.
