CAMP HO MITA KODA
Founded in 1929, Camp Ho Mita Koda is the oldest camp for children with diabetes in the United States. Surrounded by 72 wooded acres in Newbury, Ohio, just 25 miles east of Cleveland, children with diabetes learn lifelong wellness habits in a supportive, active environment. Camp Ho Mita Koda's programs are designed for children with diabetes to have fun, make friends, and learn about diabetes. The basic purpose and high standards of care that guided the camp's first year continue to prevail. Each summer, the camp is open for eight weeks providing children coping with diabetes with education and support in a camp setting. Through participating in common summer camp activities, campers gain confidence while effectively learning to manage their disease. For example, it is common for children with diabetes to give themselves an insulin injection for the first time while at Camp. Retreats & conferences accepted.
