What we're all about...
YMCA Camp Carson is a Southern Indiana overnight summer camp providing safe, fun, inclusive, healthy, & challenging camp experiences for youth since 1940.
Our summer camp programs are designed to ensure that every camper is Accepted, Challenged, and Empowered. Through intentional use of our ACE concept, we strive to ensure that while campers are at program areas, they are learning so much more than just an activity. Throughout their week, they are also learning life skills such as teamwork, communication and problem solving. We also focus on increasing camper understanding of the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility and faith.

Activities
Below is a list of activities at camp, but our campers and alumni agree that building friendships, making memories, and gaining independence are their favorite activities at YMCA Camp Carson.
Nature, archery, sailing, the Blob, pottery, clay building, woodworking, low ropes course, swimming, black hole, rolling logs, fishing, arts & crafts, pamper pole, Gaga, game room, sling shots, zipline, sand volleyball, kayaking, climbing wall, water climbing inflatables, human foosball, giant swing, drumming, Tom Sawyer swing, guitars, riflery, water volleyball, basketball, soccer, mountain boards, nature, mountain bikes.
Military camps - special camp programs for kids from Military families, at a reduced rate.
Special Wrangler (horseback) and Dirt Bike programs

We have two nurses living on site through each week of the summer. We are fortunate to have several nurses who dedicate a week of their summer to spend at Camp Carson. We also have a new Health facility on site for the nurses and campers.
What's our typical daily schedule?

What kind of food is served?
Can parents visit camp?
We encourage parents to attend our Open House (usually in early May) each year, or schedule a time prior to camp to come visit. We do not have parents visit during the camp week, as their campers are only here for 5 days in most of our programs.
How do campers communicate with parents?
We have found that photos are the best way parents learn about what's going on at camp during the one week their camper is here. We have photographers on staff who upload hundreds of photos daily to a secure photo site that parents can access.
Campers may send a letter home, but most often they are too busy enjoying camp. Parents can leave mail for campers when they drop off on Sunday, or can send emails through our free system.
Are references available?
What's our policy regarding phones and digital devices?
Camp Carson is a technology-free zone, our campers leave cell phones and ipads at home to get the most of their week away at camp.
Is tuition assistance available?
Yes! We offer scholarships and different programs for families. We also offer a tiered rate program for families who may not be able to cover the full cost of camp. https://www.campcarson.org/summer-dates-and-rates. We also have two special Military camp programs, for qualifying Military families.
